Statue Of Sir Ross Smith, A Famous Aussie Aviator

There are monuments scattered all around Adelaide and although I’ve driven past them on more than one occasion I’ve rarely taken the time to really stand back and admire them for what they represent.

I reckon this monument dedicated to aviator Sir Ross Smith to be particularly remarkable. This is a photo of the statue commemorating Sir Ross Smith, our very own local hero, in Adelaide, South Australia. It’s located just outside Adelaide Oval and I found it to be quite unique in that it also had two other statues attached to the base.

Sir Ross Smith!

This is one of them and don’t ask me what he represents because I just don’t know.
Ross Smith Base

This is the other one, a topless Angel, strange but true. I took it as a silhouette as I thought it more stunning that way.

And finally, the monument to Sir Ross Smith in all it’s glory.

The Queen Of Angels Catholic Church

When choosing a name for a church you usually find they are named after a saint or something. Not so with the the Queen Of Angels Catholic Church. I thought to myself that all in all it was a pretty cool name for a church, and I would suggest that perhaps quite a few people would agree with me.

Located on the corner of South Rd and Kintore St Thebarton it has a commanding presence and as you can see from this photo it is quite an impressive church. I find the cream colored rendering against the stark red brick very appealing as is the cross endowed spire.

First Falls At Waterfall Gully

I went for a drive down to Waterfall Gully yesterday to see if I could take a photo of the waterfall there, aptly named First Falls. It’s a beautiful spot, very peaceful and serene. The best thing is that you can drive almost right up to it and is great for those who are unable to walk a great distance.

Waterfall Gully is a suburb of Burnside but the falls itself is part of the Cleland Conservation Park.

For those of you who do not mind a bit of walking you are sure to find some lovely flowers while strolling through this lovely conservation park.

There are lots of photos that can be taken for those not scared of a little stroll.

If you are really lucky, you may even find the Waterfall Gully Restaurant open for business.

It’s open Thursday to Monday 11.00am – 5.30pm and Friday evenings but bookings on that night is essential.

This years Festa Madonna Di Montevergine turned out to be another success although the actual numbers were a little down. I will be posting a bit more on that later as this post is to highlight a group of young girls who performed at the festa. They call themselves Italcanti and as their audience was predominantly Italian most of their songs were Italian ones.

They made a few technical errors but on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed their performance, as did the audience. Without further ado I present to you Itlacanti singing Regina A Campagnola!

I reckon that I will post more of their songs a bit later on, as I will this years highlights of the festa itself.
