Ages ago I wrote about Morialta Falls and about how beautiful it was. Lately I’ve been exploring some other great walking trails in our beautiful Scenic Adelaide. The sudden urge to get fit was brought upon by my Fitbit Charge HR, a birthday gift from my kids. More about the Fitbit later on in the post! This post is about another great place for walkers and cyclists alike. The place is called Cobbler Creek Recreation Park and its full of different trails. My favourite is the Porosa Trail.
According to South Australian Trails the Porosa Hike is about 6.5k’s should take about 2.5 hours. All I can say is they must have taken it pretty easy to have taken them that long. I walked the Porosa Trail the day after Christmas because I wanted to burn off some of those Christmas calories. I took some highlights of my walk of the Porosa Trail which you can see below.
Porosa Hike Perfect For Burning Calories
The Porosa Trail comes with a lot of different routes. The video shows the one that I prefer which leads you to Teakle Ruins, down to the creek bed past the Trevalsa Ruin and then back to the Smith Rd car park. At the end of the video I reveal some stats of my Porosa Hike cutesy of my Fitbit app. It also shows you the exact route I took. Because of some backtracking and adding on another little track I walked a total of 11.17 k’s and I did it in a little over two hours.
I did the walk again today and this time I didn’t stop to take photos and stuff and as you can see from the image below I walked even further and did it in under two hours.
You’ll also notice from the video that a lot of the times I was huffing and puffing and that’s because I believe you’ll burn more calories by going beyond the leisurely walk.
In the video when coming to the creek bed I crossed it to continue my walk. In todays Porosa Hike I decided to take the track to the right of the Creek bed. Man, all In can say is that a lot of the track is more suited to bloody mountain goats than hikers 😉 As you can see from the image it took me almost to Green Valley Drive before turning away. It was a pretty arduous addition to my hike but I don’t regret it at all because the views made it worthwhile. I intend to do the same route again on future Porosa Hikes.
Fitbit Charge HR A Great Motivator
If you’re wanting to improve your health then walking is a great way to do so, not to mention it can also improve your fitness level. If you’re laking motivation the I suggest you get your hands on a Fitbit. My Fitbit Charge HR also monitors my heart rate as well as having other great features. This includes telling the time, monitoring my sleep giving a whole lot of statistics via the Fitbit app on my Smartphone. During my walk it will give me an update every kilometre telling me how long it’s taken and my average pace. As I like to keep my pace under the 10k’s per second I will pick up my pace whenever it gets too close to that goal.
You can also compete with other friends who have a Fitbit which is another great motivator.
If you’re looking for a new place to take more than just a leisurely walk then I highly recommend tackling some of the great trails, like the Porosa Trail, at the Cobbler Creek Recreation Park. The park is named after William Peddler III, one of the early settlers in the region. William happened to be a shoemaker, also known as cobbler, ergo the name.
The Teakle Ruins below is definitely one of the highlights.
