Another year has passed by an it’s almost time for this year’s Feast Of The Madonna Di Montevergine. As normal it falls on the last Sunday in September and this year that’s the 27′th of this month.

For those of you interested in this year’s program you will be pleased to know that I will be posting it here for you.

Monday 7.30pm Virgin Mary Temple of our God, an evening of prayer for vocations.

Tuesday 7.30pm Mary cause of our joy, an evening of prayer for our families.

Wednesday 7.30pm Virgin Mary Mother of Unity, an evening of prayer for our children and young adults (English/Italian Liturgy) with distribution of Blessed Medals

Thursday 7.30pm Virgin Mary Supporter and Defender of our Faith, an evening prayer and anointing of our sick an elderly

Friday 7.30pm Virgin Mary Door to Heaven, an evening of prayer to our deceased with Procession of the Holy Cross.

Saturday, 6.00 pm Parish Vigil Mass (English). 26th Sunday Of Ordinary Time. Year “C”

Sunday Feast Day

9.00am Recital of the Holy Rosary in the Church of the Annunciation, Hectorville, led by the prayer group “Rosario Vivente”.

9.20am Procession from the Hectorville Church via Montacute Road, Newton Road and Graves Street. All Religious Associations are kindly invited to participate.

10.30am CON-CELEBRATED SOLEMN HOLY MASS by Padre D. Benedetto Komar accompanied by the choir San Francesco.

12.00 noon The Dame of Montevergine will prepare a lunch for everybody; proceeds will be donated to charities.

1.00pm Concert by the GUISEPPE VERDI BAND

3.30PM Armando Masone, I Cugini Calabrese and Popular local singers.

4.00pm Holy Rosary and Benediction, followed by family Mass

5.00pm Monteverdi Singers

6.00pm Elite Accordian Group

7.30pm Musical extravaganza: Ricki Giuliano with Napule E Na Canzone presented by Cav. John DiFede and Vince Palumbo

10.00pm Fireworks

And the fireworks bring the festivities of the day to an end.

Naturally everyone is welcome to celebrate this yearly feast. If you don’t want to take place in the procession and the mass you can always partake of the following festivities.There are a lot of stalls offering Italian specialty foods such as pizza, zeppoles, pasta, cakes and other delicacies. The best thing about the food is that it’s nothing like the stuff you buy in the restaurants as it’s just like ‘what mama used to make, because there are a whole lot of dedicated mama’s cooking up a storm for everyone to enjoy.

There is also a Souvenir stand offering many religious items and souvenirs including DVDs of the previous Festa which you can recognize by the following image.

They will retail for $15 per DVD and once again I would like to thank Nicola Zollo for supplying me with the information for this post.

The

Awhile back I did a post on The Feast Of The Madonna Di Montevergine describing what it is all about and how it happens every year on the last day of September. For those of you of Italian background, who are considering a trip to Adelaide during September, you may consider taking part in the annual feast of the Madonna Di Montevergine. This year will mark the 53rd anniversary of this popular feast and it continues to grow with each year.

Held on the last Sunday of September the procession starts from the Hectorville church and ends a few miles later at the St. Francis of Assisi Church at Newton. Some of the locals like to refer to Newton as the ‘Piccola Assisi.’

After the procession reaches the church at Newton a Mass is held in a large marquis, as the Church itself is no longer able to hold the large numbers. Mass is usually said by a visiting Italian priest and many of the guests include political dignitaries, of which Premier Rann was one in last years celebration.

After mass the festivities begin which include eating, drinking catching up with old friends and listening to the entertainment. As far as entertainment goes there is always somebody new. Last year they had Antonio Villano who was booked as ‘Tenore Straordinario’, or extraordinary tenor, and from memory he really wowed the audience. As far as the food is concerned, the pasta is just like mamma makes and the pizza is divine. There is also a variety of other Italian continental delicacies including cakes.

Then for the grand finale, what else but a great show of fireworks!

Adelaide has been known to host some very popular events and one of them is right around the corner. I’m talking about Clipsal 500 Adelaide 2008 which will run from 21st of Feb – 24 Feb. Adelaide is well known for putting on some great shows and even today people still rave about the times when we used to host the Grand Prix.
